Letter: Hawaiian people more important than land
The Hawaiian monarchy was passionate about their people’s welfare, so the Thirty Meter Telescope protest has me sad.
As a previous contributor noted, will thousands march to Office of Hawaiian Affairs meetings, demanding that millions of rent dollars collected for lands used by the government are distributed to Hawaiian people? Or march to Hawaiian Home Lands to demand that indigenous Hawaiians be given land to build their homes, so that no more kupuna die without seeing their dreams fulfilled? Will they provide food to hundreds of Hawaiian keiki who do not have enough to eat, and are shamed at school for receiving meal assistance?
Na alii cared more for their people than land, so honor their memory by doing the same. And shame on you all if you don’t.
