Hawaii had role in Apollo 11
The state has designated this Saturday as “Tranquility Base Day” to honor the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing. Hawaii also played a key role in post-splashdown and recovery of the spacecraft. Before transport back to Texas, the astronauts traveled in a mobile quarantine facility from Pearl Harbor to Hickam Air Force Base.
