Moore eliminated France’s Johanne Defay by a score of 17.67 to 12.50, advancing to the semifinals against American Caroline Marks. Should Moore, the No. 2 surfer in the world, win this event, she would move into the top spot in the standings, overtaking Australia’s Sally Fitzgibbons.
Also advancing were Hawaii’s Sebastian Zietz and Malia Manuel. Manuel advanced to take on American Lakey Peterson in the semifinals, while Zietz will take on Brazil’s Felipe Toledo in the men’s quarterfinals.
