A state judge increased the bail for two men involved in a shooting outside a Pearl City strip club after a grand jury indicted the men Wednesday on assault and attempted murder charges.
Circuit Judge Shirley Kawamura increased the bail for Chris H. Hong to $250,000 from $100,000 and doubled Samson K. Anzai’s bail to $10,000. Both men had posted the lower bail amounts last Friday.
The indictment charges Hong, 31, with attempted murder, using a firearm to commit the crime and carrying a firearm without a license in connection with a July 10, shooting outside Club Hot Ash on Kamehameha Highway. Anzai is charged with second-degree assault.
Deputy Prosecutor Roy Kwon told Kawamura that the alleged victim of the attempted murder and assault was sitting in his car while Hong and Anzai were involved in a fight with the
victim’s cousin and the cousin’s friend. He said the victim stepped out of his car after the fighting subsided and he heard a gunshot.
Kwon said Hong had fired a shot into the air and that Anzai punched the man after the man stepped out of his car. He said Hong then shot at but missed the man from 5-10 feet away.
Hong then fired a shot at the man’s cousin, who was sitting in the man’s car, Kwon said. While this was happening, Kwon said Anzai went to his own car, drove at and struck the man in the knee, causing the man to fall to the ground.
Honolulu police said the victim was not seriously injured. Anzai is charged with second-degree assault for injuring the man.
Kwon said Hong fired two more shots at the man after Anzai had rammed him to the ground. Hong and Anzai left the area with the man chasing them in his own car until police converged on both cars at Ka Makana Alii shopping mall in Kapolei.
