As a Native Hawaiian, I am embarrassed and disgusted as the Thirty Meter Telescope protests continue to desecrate our beautiful Hawaiian culture and everything we stand for.
Peaceful? Where is the peace? Just because you speak softly doesn’t make your actions peaceful. King Kalakaua embraced technology especially if there was benefit for the islands and his people. I’m sure if our beloved king was here today he would embrace TMT, and you wouldn’t hear a single peep from these protesters.
There is plenty of mauna for TMT and the protesters to practice freely.
I also am disgusted that in spite of the fact that three-fourths of the people of Hawaii support the TMT project (“Local support for TMT has been strong for years,” Star-Advertiser, July 16), the news media is sensationalizing the vocal minority — again — and have not given any similar coverage to the supporters. Auwe!
