Regarding Republican letter writers and opinion columnists who like to complain about poor people receiving free government aid: I’ll wager it’s safe to assume that most of these complainers never had the misfortune to experience hunger, homelessness or lack of adequate health care in their own lives.
How lucky we Americans are to live in a civilized society with programs created by compassionate human beings who wanted to help alleviate such suffering (some of it due to severe physical or mental disability).
And by the way, it makes a lot more sense to give food stamps to poor people than tax cuts to millionaires and billionaires.
