Banan, which serves dairy-free, soft-serve desserts, has opened a new shop in Kailua town.
The 1,000-square-foot shop at 609 Kailua Road opened July 3 and is its fifth location on Oahu. The space was formerly occupied by CC Cookies & Cream, an ice cream shop.
For the next few weeks, the Kailua store will exclusively offer its special mango soft-serve, in addition to its popular banana soft-serve paired with combinations of fresh fruit, granola, shaved coconut and honey.
“We’re thrilled to be serving the windward side of Oahu,” said co-founder Matt Hong in an email. “Its community is beachy, beautiful, and conscious of their health and environment. We’ve had many eager customers warmly welcome us so far.”
Banan, a venture launched by childhood friends, started with a food truck on Monsarrat Avenue, then expanded to other locations, including a kiosk at Kahala Mall, a shop on University Avenue in Manoa and on Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki.
The Monsarrat Avenue food truck will be closing soon, said Hong, but a new one will be available for events.
The Kailua Road space was formerly occupied by Cookies and Cream as well as other dessert shops, including Cold Stone Creamery and Chip & Cookie, a shop run by entrepreneur Wally Amos.
