Wait a minute — what? I had to read it over twice to make sure I hadn’t misread it.
In the June 29 article, “In Custody,” about the Kealoha trial, was a section on the four convicted felons’ sentencing dates.
Regarding HPD officers Derek Wayne Hahn and Minh-Hung Nguyen, the article said: “Following their convictions, Hahn and Nguyen were placed on paid administrative leave Friday, Honolulu Police Department spokeswoman Michelle Yu said.”
Paid administrative leave?
These men were convicted in federal court of several felonies related to work carried out, while in uniform, for the Honolulu Police Department’s Criminal Intelligence Unit — and they’re still collecting paychecks? They should be fired immediately.
What kind of message does that send? Yeah, you can be a convicted felon, but who cares?
You’ll still get paid — and probably long enough to retire with a pension. No wonder HPD is corrupt.
