ENJOY THE NIGHT SKY AND A GOOD MOVIE AT WAIMEA VALLEY
Families can take movie night outdoors this summer at the annual Screen on the Green series, held every Thursday evening through July (except July 4) at Waimea Valley.
“To be sprawled out on the main lawn under a canopy of stars and a feel-good movie on for the whole family to enjoy is a great way to spend your Thursday evening,” said Kimberly Anguiano, special events manager at Waimea Valley.
This year’s lineup includes a mix of new hits and old classics, from “Incredibles 2” to the original “Jurassic Park.” Bring a blanket or low chair for seating, and bug spray just in case.
Before the film starts, movie-goers are welcome to swing by the FarmLovers at Haleiwa farmers market, open 2-7 p.m. Thursdays (closed July 4) at the Valley’s Pikake Pavilion. There’s also a bar serving draft beer, wine and soft drinks until 8 p.m., Anguiano said.
“At the farmers market, you can pick up some fresh-out-of-the-oven pizza, tacos or choose from other vendors to pick up dinner and grab a seat on the lawn in time for the movie,” Anguiano said.

STATE ART MUSEUM OFFERS KEIKI WORKSHOPS
Learn about block printing. Take a photo at a photobooth, then make a magnetic photo clip critter. Create a watercolor collage. These free hands-on workshops with local artists are part of the super fun activities at Super Saturday this weekend at Hawaii State Art Museum.
This Saturday’s event is the museum’s first Super Saturday, created as part of an effort by director Karen Ewald to add more family-oriented events to the museum, said Mamiko K. Carroll, public information officer at the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts.
“This summer looked like a good time to start increasing daytime weekend events that are fun for all ages, with a focus on being kid-friendly,” Carroll said. ”We know that a lot of families want to have more opportunities for creative experiences.”
Super Saturday includes Kailua Moon performing Hawaiian classics, toe-tapping anthems and cinematic ballads (noon-2 p.m.), plus local food vendors. Also, museum galleries will be open on the second floor, including the hands-on “I Love Art” gallery.

SHARE IN UKULELE CULTURE AT WINDWARD MALL
Aspiring Jakes and Taimanes are welcome to join the Ukulele Club of Hawaii for a free ukulele lesson on Tuesday — and the first Tuesday of every month — at Windward Mall center court. Tuesday’s lesson, open to all ages and levels of ability, includes a performance by Jody Kamisato and Honoka of Ukulele Hale.
The Ukulele Club of Hawaii is a community-based passion project founded in 2006 by Joe and Kristen Souza (of Kanilea Ukulele), along with “Bruddah Sam” (of Vaihi) and his wife “Lina Girl“ (of Hawaiian 105 KINE/Kanilea Ukulele), to perpetuate the ukulele in their hometown of Kaneohe.
There are no membership dues and all costs for venue, song sheets and prize giveaways are covered by Kanilea Ukulele or donations by individual club members. Members gather on the first Tuesday of every month at the mall’s center court to enjoy a lesson by a guest instructor, performances, play alongs and prize giveaways. Participants are asked to bring an ukulele to the lessons.
