Here’s my experience regarding the new bulky-item pickup system: I had to clean under the house for the plumber. I unearthed a wheelbarrow, a BMX bike, a rusty sheet of roofing and a golf bag caddy: four items, all metal. Plus, we removed an old window air-conditioner unit, which makes five. I went to schedule a pickup with the city, selected “Metal” and was informed only two items allowed, not the five advertised in the run-up to the program.
This is all stuff that cannot go in the rubbish cans. I don’t know who dreamed up these limits, but they are ridiculous; I guarantee there was no citizen input. Only five items (two if metal) once a month is plain silly.
I really think we should go back to the old system right away. This program is not useful to the residents of Honolulu, and everybody should get in touch with their Council member and tell them to fix this.
