Jean E. Rosenfeld was saddened by the passing of a thrill seeker who died at Spitting Caves and others who have died there (“Aloha doesn’t mean careless: Warn our visitors of dangers,” Star-Advertiser, Island Voices, June 10). She criticized our poorly maintained trails and lack of lifeguards and signage. She blamed local government “when someone dies from lazy uncaring attitudes.”
What about personal responsibility? People put themselves in these situations because of ignorance, stupidity and being manipulated by social media.
Not enough signage? Ha! “6 cited for trespassing at Sacred Falls Sate Park” (Star-Advertiser, June 13). One of them was injured. They put themselves and first responders in danger.
Ignorance and stupidity? Yup! “Don’t risk life for selfie” (Star-Advertiser, Week in Review, June 15). Between October 2011 and November 2017, worldwide 259 people have died taking a selfie. One step too many and it’s off a cliff.
Nature has a way of eliminating sick and injured animals. The bloodline remains strong. Perhaps this is nature’s way of eliminating the less intellectual and easily manipulated so the human species becomes smarter.
