I speak as an Oahu refugee, having fled 20 years ago to Maui. However, I always seem to notice the commercial-vehicle incidents that clog your already taxed highway infrastructure.
And being not one to complain but to offer a solution, I present this idea: Inspect all commercial vehicles and tag them with a chip that will be scanned automatically at all freeway onramps, similar to toll-road chips on the mainland.
These will alert traffic control as to the safety status of the vehicle, and accompanying cameras will alert law enforcement to the lack of a chip. Police can be quickly alerted about an unsafe or unchipped vehicle, hopefully before the driver or the equipment fails yet again on your freeways. Good luck! I wish Oahu the best.
