STAR-ADVERTISER ARCHIVE / MAY 1, 1967
About 50 or 60 people took part in a May Day “love-in” in a Tantalus clearing. In addition to dancing
around a maypole with purple, red and white crepe paper streamers, there were games of touch football,
follow the leader and king of the mountain, as well as cloud-watching, napping and prowling in the woods.
“Some of them wouldn’t talk to me, but I guess you could say they’re just having a picnic in the sun,” said
Honolulu Police Department offi cer Robert Cogswell, who had been assigned to monitor the event.
