Under Department of Justice rules, Special Counsel Robert Mueller could not make a determination of guilt for obstruction of justice by a sitting president. However, Mueller was allowed to find the president innocent of obstruction of justice — which he did not do — instead citing many instances of possible obstruction. Congress needs to investigate these circumstances and the White House needs to obey the rule of law by supplying requested information.
The report also found that Russia had used “sophisticated cyber techniques” and had “launched a concerted attack on our political system.”
These successful efforts supported one 2016 presidential candidate and disparaged the other. Donald Trump — the one who benefitted — now claims said interference is a hoax and is refusing to do anything to stop it.
We just celebrated Memorial Day, which honors those who fought in wars to defend our country and our Constitution. Please let’s not throw their sacrifices away by allowing Trump to continue to trample our system of democracy and to encourage more foreign interference by not stopping it.
