Wahiawa brush fire flares up
The 40-acre brush fire in Wahiawa is almost fully contained as of this morning.
The fire department deemed the brush fire fully contained earlier this morning, but at 11:01 a.m., it received an alarm that smoke had appeared.
“(HFD) had found a tree from the burnout area that was smoldering or burning a little bit,” said HFD’s Capt. Scot Seguirant. “It rolled down to a green area, and now it’s starting to smoke.”
Seguirant said there is no fire, only smoke, and that four units including Air 1 and eight personnel are being sent to manage the smoke.
HFD communications indicated the blaze was active in the vicinity of 65-665 Kaokonahua Rd.
The fire was in the same area as one that started May 19 and burned 525 acres before being declared fully contained on Wednesday. HFD said a change in wind direction on Saturday is believed to have set off the latest fire.
