A possible solution to the abortion controversy might be found in a reframing of the issue so we won’t be forced into a “yes-or-no” answer, thereby increasing the polarization of our nation.
Over the years, I’ve always thought the final decision should be made by the pregnant woman in consultation (perhaps) with those closest to her. While I’m still of that opinion, I’ve also had serious doubts about the thoroughness of the decision-making process. Because I consider all life to be sacred, a part of me is pro-life. Thus, is it possible to be both pro-choice and pro-life?
Freedom of choice is important to me, but to avoid abuse or the possibility of poor decisions, we should agree on some guiding principles.
If the discussion is focused on moral principles rather than “yes or no,” we might discover a solution.
