Helicopter tour owners proclaim safety is the primary issue (“Copter tour owners defend safety record,” Star-Advertiser, May 15).
It well may be, but profit is a close second.
Anyone who has lived here for more than 10 years has noticed the vast increase in helicopters in the sky. It’s a ridiculous amount of flying over residential and commercial properties and in case anyone hasn’t noticed, there’s been about one helicopter accident every six months. It’s only a matter of time before an innocent citizen gets killed by a falling chopper.
One owner said he has 79 families depending on his company. How convenient; he dismisses the 79 families his helicopters disturb every minute while flying over Honolulu and other populated areas. Claiming to want to be a good neighbor and being one are two different things altogether.
State Rep. Cynthia Thielen is completely correct that this industry needs to be regulated more closely. Now we just need our federal representatives in Washington, D.C., to actually do something for their constituents.
