What is wrong with you guys? The headline said, “Wind farm plan aims to reduce Hawaiian bats deaths” (Star-Advertiser, May 16), but the story says turbine owners want to kill more of them than they first promised.
You fell for the public relations about a plan to disrupt bats’ sonic sense so they won’t fly into the windmills as often. The blades are chopping up more of the endangered species than anyone ever dreamed. And the story ignores how many bats the blades have killed, how many are left, or the chance of their extinction.
Enough? Progress almost wiped out all the Hawaiians themselves when the population dropped an estimated 84% as hundreds of thousands died from foreign diseases after Captain James Cook “discovered” the islands.
