Honolulu Fire Department battling wildland fire in Wahiawa
Firefighters are continuing to battle a wildland fire that grew to 375 acres in Wahiawa.
Honolulu Fire Spokesman Capt. Scott Seguirant said Air 1 and Air 2 will resume water drops today in the area above Poamoho Stream and north of Schofield Range.
“Hopefully the conditions will be better than they were yesterday,” Seguirant said. “Yesterday it was windy. That definitely did not help.”
Firefighters initially responded to the wildland fire shortly before 1:20 p.m. Sunday. A U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter assisted the fire department with water drops.
Windy conditions and steep terrain hindered efforts to contain the blaze.
The wildland fire scorched about 300 acres when firefighters suspended operations by nightfall Sunday.
