In a move that’s sure to get applause from many graduating high school seniors and University of Hawaii students, the UH Board of Regents has approved a plan to freeze undergraduate tuition at 2019-20 rates for three years at all 10 campuses, and trim rates for UH-Manoa graduate students — by 2% for residents and 10% for nonresidents — effective 2020.
However, along with the new tuition schedule, the board passed an amendment making it subject to “annual evaluation and adjustment to prevent significant, negative, economic or enrollment impact to the university.” For the sake of higher-ed affordability, here’s hoping for thaw-free academic years.

There are miles to go before Honolulu can call itself truly bike-friendly, but after two years, Biki ranks as the sixth most-used bikeshare system in the country. That’s success few people expected.
