The city’s Neighborhood Boards Commission is wrapping up its latest biennial election — 553 candidates vying for 435 seats on Oahu’s 33 neighborhood boards. Voting is being conducted largely online, through Friday, at www2.honolulu.gov/nbe/vote.php.
Ballot passcodes were mailed out last month to voters in neighborhoods with contested races. Would-be voters who have misplaced the mail can still take part by stopping by the commission office at Kapalama Hale, 925 Dillingham Blvd. (Suite 160), today or Friday to fill out an old-fashioned paper ballot. For information, call the election hotline, 768-3781, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Home buyers flock to Ke Kilohana
The newly opened Ke Kilohana tower, with its moderate-income condo units, proves the surging need for affordable homes in the city.
The new condo buyers have especially the Hawaii Community Development Authority to thank. Developer Howard Hughes Corp. in 2015 petitioned to change the permit requirements, hoping to deliver affordable rental units instead of apartments for purchase that are priced within the more affordable “reserved” price range.
Gratifyingly, HCDA turned thumbs down on that.
