I was delighted to hear that Wes R. Porter has been appointed a federal magistrate judge for the District of Hawaii. Porter was the president and CEO of Damien Memorial School (DMS) in Kalihi, when a small group from the Class of 1967 (second graduating class) was preparing for its 50th class reunion. Despite his busy schedule, he met with the small committee a few times in 2017. His presence and insight were welcomed. Then, his presence and introduction speech at the Class of 1967 gathering at the Oahu Country Club in September 2017 were greatly appreciated.
I was personally disappointed when he unexpectedly left DMS in 2018. I felt that DMS lost a visionary and leader. Also, DMS was blessed to have an attorney as head.
Mahalo nui loa to Judge Wes R. Porter for his time at the helm of DMS. I’m confident he’ll do well in the federal judiciary system. I wish him well.
