Maui lifeguard rescues 2 swimmers clinging to rock
A Maui lifeguard rescued today a pair of visiting swimmers found clinging to Black Rock in Kaanapali.
The Maui Fire Department said in a news release that the man and woman, both in their 30s, were swimming and could not make it back to shore due to the high surf and strong currents.
The pair were stranded on the rock and waving for help, MFD said.
An Ocean Safety lifeguard used a rescue watercraft to bring the swimmers to shore.
Firefighters tended to the two, who received scrapes and cuts but refused treatment.
