Ramos’ walk-off hit scored senior Nicole Lopez from second and gave Brittany Hitchcock, another senior, a complete-game victory to open UH’s final series of the regular season. Hitchcock threw 174 pitches and struck out 13 in UH’s longest game since a 12-inning win over Syracuse in 2013.
UC Davis ace Brooke Yanez gave up a solo homer to UH catcher Callee Heen in the fourth inning, and finished with 18 strikeouts in the loss. Hitchcock took a shutout into the seventh before Isabella Leon homered to left field to tie the game.
UC Davis overcame a three-run deficit to win the second game of the doubleheader 7-3. The loss eliminated UH (33-15, 14-6 Big West) from contention for the conference title.
