Man, 23, killed in Waikiki hit-and-run; police look for pickup truck driver
A 23-year-old pedestrian was killed late Thursday in a hit-and-run in Waikiki.
Positive identification of the victim is pending.
The collision occurred about 10:30 p.m. on Kalakaua Avenue fronting the Waikiki Aquarium.
Police said a vehicle, described by witnesses as a white late-model Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, was traveling eastbound on Kalakaua Avenue when it struck a man who was crossing the street.
The pickup truck fled the scene. A surveillance video from a nearby building captured images of a truck that fit witnesses’ description of the vehicle.
Emergency Medical Services responded and treated the pedestrian before taking him in critical condition to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said he was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.
Speed does not appear to be factor. It is unknown at this time whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
This is the year’s 21st traffic-related fatality on Oahu compared with 19 at the same time last year.
