I’m a drug dealer. I sell crystal meth and heroin to the kids in our neighborhoods. I knew it was illegal to sell drugs when I started doing it, but I’ve come to depend on the income to maintain my lifestyle. I don’t want to stop selling drugs, so I’m asking the government to make it legal.
Of course, that request is ridiculous. It is the same ridiculous request the scofflaws with their illegal vacation rentals are making. They don’t care about the laws. They don’t care about being good citizens, and they don’t care about our communities. They only care about their greed.
Short-term rentals are ruining our bedroom communities with noise and congestion. They are removing precious long-term rentals from the market, and driving up the cost of the remaining long-term rental units for those in our community who can afford it the least.
