Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report validates, with crystal clarity, what most Americans already know about President Donald Trump’s numerous efforts to obstruct an investigation that would be damaging to him, his family and political allies.
The report exposes a culture of dishonesty and corruption in Trump’s presidency as well as relentless efforts to undermine the rule of law.
The report indicated that, although there is a mountain of evidence which strongly suggests that the president has committed obstruction of justice, the special counsel could not so state by virtue of the Justice Department’s long-standing policy against indicting a sitting president.
But the report also noted that Congress may apply the obstruction laws to the president’s corrupt exercise of the powers of office accords with our constitutional system of checks and balances and the principle that no person is above the law.
In view of the above, Congress must now fulfill its constitutional obligation by initiating an impeachment proceedings without delay.
