Attorney General William Barr has said through his four-page summary and the unusual press conference on April 18 that there was no obstruction by President Donald Trump or the Trump campaign.
However, in the introduction to Volume II of the Mueller report, Item Four states that if President Donald Trump clearly did not commit obstruction of justice, the report would so state. That Trump did not commit a crime involving obstruction is not stated. And while there is no direct charge that the president committed a crime, the report specifically says it does not exonerate him.
Why, then, would Barr give summaries contrary to the contents of the Mueller report?
If there is any doubt left about the reasons for Barr’s appointment and the timing of his appointment, then those questions, in my mind, have now been clearly answered. Who needs a Rudy Giuliani or a Ty Cobb when you have a Barr?
