American law protects us from abuse of power by government officials. This includes restricting prosecutors from using their power improperly to achieve ends that lie outside their jurisdiction. The Mueller investigation’s authority flowed from law enforcement, which limited its scope and purpose. Now we have the full report, and it clearly includes evidence that the Mueller team improperly included political considerations in its conclusions.
The report states, “With respect to whether the President can be found to have obstructed justice by exercising his powers under Article II of the Constitution, we concluded that Congress has authority to prohibit a President’s corrupt use of his authority in order to protect the integrity of the administration of justice.”
That conclusion is not the proper result of a criminal investigation, which seeks only to determine whether or not probable cause exists to charge commission of a crime.
The proof of my thesis is in the pudding: The Democrats, taking this political lead from the report, now want to determine if Congress should impeach the president.
We cannot permit our law enforcement agencies to be turned into political weapons.
