The operators of five Goma Tei Ramen restaurants that failed to pay overtime have agreed to give $190,000 in back wages and damages to 49 workers.
An investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division determined the eateries paid kitchen staff fixed salaries “without regard to the number of hours they actually worked,” violating the Fair Labor Standards Act.
The restaurants were also hit with recordkeeping violations because they did not accurately record total hours worked.
The locations cited at Ala Moana Shopping Center, Ward Center, Pearlridge Shopping Center and Kahala Mall, are owned by Kenneth Siu, Jerry Siu and Choi Sim Siu; the fifth location at the International Marketplace is owned by Kenneth and Jerry Siu.
