Generations of keiki have been mesmerized by the magnificent koi fish at Ala Moana Center. Now shoppers are welcome to help feed the center’s beloved koi thanks to a recently launched activity, which takes place daily at the koi ponds on the mall’s second level in the Diamond Head and Ewa wings.
“The koi fish have been a popular attraction at Ala Moana Center since we first opened 60 years ago,” said Francis Cofran, senior general manager at Ala Moana Center. “Our daily fish feeding experience is a fun new way for shoppers of all ages to interact with our iconic koi.”
Today the center’s ponds are home to 42 koi, ranging from 2 to about 30 years old and consisting of 16 varieties. The daily feedings are limited and on a first-come, first-served basis. The premium fish food, imported from Japan, is provided by Ala Moana Center.
Shoppers are welcome to post their feeding photos to social media, using #AlaMoanaKoi and tagging @AlaMoanaCenter.
