It’s becoming the most cherished commodity everywhere in the urban core — parking — and not the least in growing Kakaako. The population continues to fill in, well ahead of prospects for rail transit reaching the area. The latest to join the quest for the endangered parking stall are the students and faculty of the medical school on the makai side. The school has secured only about half the roughly 100 spaces it recently lost.
As for filling that gap: Uber and Lyft drivers, are you listening?
Take a walk on the music side
It may not be as famous as the Hollywood attraction, but you can’t beat the view for visitors to the Waikiki version. The new Hawaiian Music Walk of Fame has iconic names — Alice Namakelua, Hilo Hattie, Alfred Apaka, Gabby Pahinui, Don Ho, Israel Kamakawiwo‘ole and Chick Daniels — with posted plaques and electronic links to biographies, fronting 2500 Kalakaua Ave.
We hope the sidewalk area for plaques can extend farther for the many deserving artists. But this is a nice start to a great idea.
