Kudos to David Shapiro’s column, and double kudos to its topic, University of Hawaii president David Lassner (“University of Hawaii’s Lassner due respect for keeping cool under fire,” Star-Advertiser, Volcanic Ash, April 7).
America has become a country of whiners and crybabies and name-callers. Lassner quietly going about his business as UH president, and accomplishing something important for the university, is not “kowtowing to the whims” of anyone, and is not inappropriate micro-management.
It’s called his job.
As Shapiro indicated, Lassner should be applauded.
