Kobie Russell hit his third home run of the season in the fifth inning and the Hawaii Hilo baseball team scratched out a run in the eighth inning to defeat Hawaii Pacific 5-4 in an NCAA Division II game Sunday at Hans L’Orange Park.
The win on Sunday gave the Vulcans (18-15) a four-game sweep over the Sharks (19-19). Only the first game of the series on Friday was Pacific West Conference game.
Brandyn Lee-Lahano gave up one hit over three shutout innings in relief to earn his fourth win of the season, while John Kea recorded his seventh save.
Sean Coffey went 2-for-4 on the afternoon, including a triple, and drove in two runs in the loss for Hawaii Pacific.
Art U softball takes pair from Silverswords
Visiting Academy of Art hit six home runs in its two-game Pacific West Conference softball sweep of Chaminade on Sunday, by scores of 5-0 and 10-2 (six innings) at Central Oahu Regional Park.
Three were hit by Brenna Youngquist, who had two in the second game of the doubleheader.
Academy of Art is led by first-year head coach Alex (Aguirre) Gomez, a former UH softball player who was a member of the 2010 Women’s College World Series team.
Chaminade had seven hits in the second game, with Alexis Velazquez recording two of them.
The Urban Knights improved to 11-10, 7-4 in conference play. Chaminade fell to 11-31 and 8-22.
The Silverswords take on Hawaii Pacific on Saturday at Howard A. Okita Field.
