Waikoloa woman identified in fatal Big Isle crash

A 67-year-old Waikoloa woman who died following a single-vehicle collision in Waimea last weekend has been identified as Elisa Eubank.

The incident happened Sunday on Old Saddle Road near the 45-mile marker, Route 200.

A white 2002 Ford Thunderbird convertible sedan was traveling west on Old Saddle Road when the vehicle lost control and crashed into the grassy embankment, police said, causing the vehicle to roll and overturn onto its roof.

Police said the driver was transported to the hospital for injuries, and the front passenger, Elisa Eubank, was found unresponsive at the scene; she was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police believe inattention and speed were factors in the crash; it is not known if alcohol and drugs were involved.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Officer Jason Foxworthy at (808) 326-4646 ext. 229.

This is the fourth traffic fatality this year compared with seven at this time last year.

Big Island police closed Old Saddle Road at the 45-mile marker from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today as part of their investigation into the fatal crash.
