Man and woman die after being found unresponsive in waters off Big Island resort
UPDATE 1:45 p.m. Monday:
A man and woman who were found floating face down in waters off of Keauhou Bay on Hawaii island have died, police said today.
Alan Richmond, spokesman of the Hawaii Police Department, said police and firefighters responded to a report of two people in distress in waters south of the Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa at Keauhou Bay just before 4:10 p.m. Sunday.
Witnesses reported hearing a woman yelling for help. They also reported seeing someone in distress in the rough water.
Firefighters with the help of a tour boat docked at a nearby harbor searched the waters and found the man about 15 feet from shore and the woman about 40 feet from the coastline. They were both unresponsive.
The man was described to be in his 40s to 50s and the woman was described to be in her 40s.

Firefighters brought them on the boat and administered CPR.
Both were taken in critical condition to Kona Community Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
Positive identification is pending.

Firefighters responded to a report of a male and a female observed floating face down in the ocean in high surf conditions around 40 feet from the shore at about 4:10 p.m.
When they arrived, firefighters with the assistance of a tour boat, Hula Kai, docked at the harbor near the resort searched for the two people, according to a Hawaii County Fire Department news release.
Firefighters located the man, described to be in his 40s to 50s, about 15 feet from the shore. The woman, described to be in her 40s, was found about 40 feet from the coastline.
Firefighters brought them to the boat and administered CPR.
The fire department said they were taken to Kona Community Hospital in critical condition.
