No. 7 Cal Poly beats No. 6 Hawaii in beach volleyball
No. 6 Hawaii fell to No. 7 Cal Poly 3-2 today in the finale of the Big West Challenge beach volleyball tournament in Pismo Beach, Calif.
It was the first time the Rainbow Wahine (18-7) had lost to the Mustangs (14-7) in eight meetings. Both the SandBows and Cal Poly finish the tournament 5-1, the Mustangs losing on Saturday 4-1 to No. 9 Long Beach State.
The deciding point came at Flight 5 where Paige Dreeuws-Sofia Russo couldn’t hold on against Delaney Peranich-Sam Manley, 16-21, 28-26, 15-11.
Earlier today, Hawaii swept No. 9 Long Beach State 5-0, defeating the 49ers for the the sixth straight time. The SandBows then swept Sac State 5-0, a match that saw the No. 3 pair of Morgan Martin-Pani Napoleon break the school record for consecutive sets-won of 28 set last year by Ari Homayun and Amy Ozee last season.
Martin-Napoleon, winning their match against Cal Poly 21-13, 21-15, extended the record to 32 to go 16-0 on the season.
