I wrote several months ago saying that I felt the aloha spirit was eroding, when my son had to pay $250 to a towing company when he parked in the parking lot of a closed business to help at a fatal Kakaako accident before arrival of the first responders.
But recently, my daughter had a flat leaving work. She went to an air/water/vacuum station close to the parking garage. She asked a man who was vacuuming his truck if he thought the tire would hold air until she went to the tire store.
He looked at the tire and found a nail. He looked at his watch and said, “Wait, wait. I got time.” He got a puncture repair kit and tools from his truck and fixed the tire, filled it with air and checked for leaks. When my daughter offered to pay him, he said, “No need.”
My faith in the aloha spirit has been restored.
