University of Hawaii baseball team falls to No. 19 UC Irvine
UC Irvine held off Hawaii for an 8-5 baseball victory tonight at Les Murakami Stadium.
A night after being drubbed 10-2, the 19th-ranked Anteaters amassed 11 hits, six walks and three hit batsmen to even this three-game Big West series at a victory apiece. The series finale is set for Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Li‘i Pontes will start for UH.
The Anteaters were able to oust Jeremy Wu-Yelland after taking a 3-0 lead with no outs in the third. It was Wu-Yelland’s briefest stint in eight starts during his two-season UH career.
UCI right-hander Tanner Brubaker allowed two runs in seven innings to earn the victory. Brubaker, at his third college in three years, was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays last year. He opted to honor his commitment to UCI.
Brendan Brooks and Christian Koss hit solo home runs for the Anteaters.
