Help Coast Guard ID kayak found adrift off Maui
The Coast Guard is asking the public to help identify a red-and-yellow kayak found adrift Monday evening off Kalepolepo Beach Park on Maui.
After receiving notification of the kayak from the Maui Fire Department, Coast Guard crews Tuesday issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast notice to mariners to keep an eye out for signs of distress.
There are currently no reports of missing persons in the area.
A good Samaritan noticed the kayak, recovered it and turned it over to Maui police.
Fire personnel searched along the shore Monday evening.
Anyone with information that might help identify the kayak’s owner is asked to call the Coast Guard’s Honolulu sector at 842-2600.

The Coast Guard offers free “If Found” decals to mark gear, or recommends owners write their names and contact information directly on ocean gear and safety equipment.
Labels are available at local harbormasters, through the Coast Guard Auxiliary, from Honolulu Sail and Power Squadron offices and at select marine retail and supply stores.
The information can help responders determine whether someone is in distress and ensure equipment is returned to owners.
Those who lose equipment should report it to the Coast Guard.
