Hawaii senior Brittany Hitchcock held Southern Illinois-Edwardsville to three singles in the Rainbow Wahine softball team’s 5-0 win on Thursday in the Bank of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Classic.
Hitchcock (7-3) struck out three and received offensive support in solo home runs hit by Callee Heen and Sissy Pantastico. Senior Nicole Lopez went 2-for-3 with an RBI double.
UH (18-7) faces No. 4 Alabama (28-0) today at 6 p.m. at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
HPU softball splits with No. 1 team
The Hawaii Pacific softball team beat No. 1 Concordia 4-1 in the second game of a doubleheader Thursday in Irvine, Calif.
Emilee Leonard pitched a six-hitter with six strikeouts and Sierra Dias, Noel Saunders and Mary Dungey each had two hits for the Sharks.
In the first game, Callie Nunes pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts in the Eagles’ 7-1 victory.
The Sharks moved to 19-15, 13-7 PacWest, while the Eagles went to 16-2, 7-1.

In the first game, Kiarra Lincoln and Markie Okamoto each drove in three runs for the Vulcans.
In the second game, Hilo’s Valerie Alvarado pitched a four-hitter and Vevesi Liilii batted 4-for-4 with three RBIs in a game shortened to six innings.
The Vulcans improved to 16-4, 11-1 PacWest, while the Penguins fell to 3-8, 2-8.
Sharks baseball team falls to Azusa Pacific
The Hawaii Pacific baseball team collected 12 hits, but fell 8-1 to No. 23 Azusa Pacific on Thursday in Azusa, Calif.
Tanner Tokunaga batted 4-for-4 for the Sharks (16-11, 3-8 PacWest).
Osvaldo Tovalin went 5-for-5 with five RBIs for the Cougars (13-9, 3-2).
3 from Hawaii schools named all-region
Hawaii Pacific’s Breanna Mackenzie, Chaminade’s Destiny Castro and Hawaii Hilo’s Allie Navarette were named to the D2CCA NCAA Division II women’s basketball all-west region second team on Thursday.
Mackenzie, a senior guard from Melbourne, Australia, averaged 14.6 points and 6.3 rebounds this season.
Castro, a junior guard from Talofofo, Guam, averaged 20 points and 3.3 steals.
Navarette, a sophomore post player from Torrance, Calif., averaged 19.8 points and 10.1 rebounds.
Hawaii-Hilo women’s golfers in eighth
The Hawaii Hilo women’s golf team is tied for eighth after shooting a 56-over-par 344 in Thursday’s first round of the Augustana University Spring Fling in Palm Desert, Calif.
The Vulcans’ top golfer, Kaelyn Uchida, is tied for 24th after shooting an 11-over 83 at the Desert Willow Golf Resort.
Point Loma leads the 10-team tournament at 314. The Sea Lions’ Alii Kim leads with a 71.
