The Hawaii Pacific women’s basketball team retained its PacWest Conference title, defeating Azusa Pacific 75-68 in the tournament final Saturday in San Rafael, Calif.
Amy Baum finished with 24 points and seven rebounds and Alysha Marcucci added 16 points for the third-seeded Sharks (23-8), who earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II tournament.
HPU’s Breanna Mackenzie was named the tournament’s most outstanding player. She was joined on the all-tournament team by Baum and Marcucci.
Daylee Hanson scored 21 points for the top-seeded Cougars (25-5).
UH splits doubleheader in softball
The University of Hawaii softball team split a doubleheader in the Outrigger Resorts Hawaii Spring Fling Tournament on Saturday, defeating Niagara 3-0 before falling 8-5 to SIU-Edwardsville at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
In the first game, Callee Heen drove in all three runs and Izzy Dino tossed a one-hitter for Hawaii.
In the second game, Brittnee Rossi drove in two runs for the Rainbow Wahine, who moved to 15-6.
HPU softball sweeps Azusa Pacific
The Hawaii Pacific softball team swept a doubleheader against Azusa Pacific on Saturday in Azusa, Calif.
In the first game, Tiana Cantero-Kawelo and Jordan Curry each drove in two runs for the Sharks in an 8-7 victory.
Both teams scored three runs in the final inning.
In the second game, Emilee Leonard pitched a two-hitter and Sierra Dias drove in three runs as HPU won 8-0 in five innings.
The Sharks improved to 18-11, 11-3 PacWest, while the Cougars dropped to 7-9, 4-4.

In the first game, the Vulcans’ Isabelle Mejia pitched a four-hitter with five strikeouts.
In the second game, Kiarra Lincoln hit a go-ahead RBI triple and Maria Steadmon added a run-scoring single in the sixth inning for Hilo.
The Vulcans improved to 12-4, 7-1 PacWest, while the Hawks fell to 4-11, 3-7.
Sharks baseball swept by Concordia
The Hawaii Pacific baseball team was swept by Concordia on Saturday in Irvine, Calif.
In the first game, the Sharks’ Jake Selco went 2-for-2 with two runs and three RBIs in a 9-6 loss.
In the second game, Sean Coffey batted 4-for-5 for HPU in a 12-4 loss.
The Sharks dropped to 16-8, 3-5 PacWest, while the Eagles improved to 7-10, 2-0.

In the first game, Kyle Yamada had a three-run triple and scored the winning run on an errant throw by the second baseman in the ninth inning.
In the second game, Rustin Ho had two hits for Hilo.
The Vulcans moved to 7-10, 5-5 PacWest, while the Sunbirds went to 6-11, 3-5.
Nagamine to speak at Honolulu QB Club
Michele “Bud” Nagamine, the head coach of the Hawaii women’s soccer team, will be the guest speaker at Monday’s Honolulu Quarterback Club luncheon at Maple Garden Restaurant.
Nagamine led the Rainbow Wahine to a 9-7-1 mark in her eighth season at the helm.
The luncheon, which costs $17 per person, will begin at 11:30 a.m., and the program at noon.
