Water is life, plain and simple. The Red Hill fuel storage facility is a ticking time bomb that the Department of Defense and other government agencies are trying to remediate with the cheapest solution possible, which means avoiding double-wall containment of the fuel tanks.
City Council Resolution 18-266 CD1 would urge the Environmental Protection Agency and state Department of Health to reject the single-wall solution being proposed, mainly as it is the cheapest but not the safest solution to contain any future spills.
The irony is that these agencies are supposed to protect the public but instead, we the public need to constantly put pressure on these agencies to “do the right thing,” which is often not the “cheapest thing.”
Once our aquifer is contaminated there is no remediation. Pau.
What then? Desalinization? Importing water from the mainland? Just drink more soda? Auwe!
Lolo is what lolo does.
