The person who wrote the letter, “Careless hikers waste city funds” (Star-Advertiser, Feb. 26), should be applauded for stepping up to share the same thoughts as state Sen. Mike Gabbard, whose proposal makes sense (“Rescue fee,” Star-Advertiser, Feb. 25). Common sense!
Gabbard said that to “willfully disobeying Hawaii state laws” and getting into a situation where the state/city has to rescue someone, that person is not using sound thinking. Hawaii taxpayers in general struggle to stay on top of making a honest wage to be able to live in this state, so-called the Aloha State. How much more “aloha” will the citizens need to pour out in order to survive in this state?
A lot has been asked of our legislators to pass this bill and that bill in helping to correct this situation or that situation. I think it’s time to use the brains that God has given us by using sound thinking — common sense. God bless, and stay safe out there.
