My wife and I love to visit the Hawaiian Humane Society (HHS), since we are animal lovers and find it therapeutic visiting the animals. But in recent months I have noticed that cages were empty and not a lot of animals were in the shelter.
At first, my wife and I thought that the animals were being adopted. Then we heard that HHS was euthanizing many of the animals, which explained why there were few animals in the shelter.
I remember when HHS took animals from the Friends for Life (“Rescued Friends for Life animals up for adoption,” Star-Advertiser, April 1, 2017). Now with this going on, I feel that it is a season for HHS to humble itself and look to see if it really does care for animals.
Maybe it is time for HHS, the SPCA and the Friends For Life Hawaii to work together in saving the animals of Hawaii.
