Senior third baseman Nicole Lopez hit two two-run home runs as the University of Hawaii softball team defeated Canisius 7-2 on Sunday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Lopez homered in the bottom of the first for UH (12-4), a two-run shot over the right-center-field fence. In the same inning, designated player Jenna Kumabe hit her first career home run to give the Bows a 3-0 lead after the first.
In the bottom of the fourth, with the score 5-0, Lopez hit her second home run of the game, which tied her career high of two home runs in one game.
It’s the third time in her career that Lopez has hit two home runs in the same game. For the week, Lopez hit four home runs.
Brittany Hitchcock picked up her third win of the season in a complete-game seven-hitter, allowing two runs.
The Rainbow Wahine are off until March 6, when they host the Outrigger Resorts Spring Fling tournament.
UH sailing takes third
The University of Hawaii Rainbow sailing team finished in third place at the 2019 McIntyre Team Race, hosted by Stanford over the weekend in Redwood City, Calif.
On Sunday, the ‘Bows went 2-2 in the gold division and moved into the championship round of the final four, where they went 1-2, including a win over Cal Maritime.
UH went 10-6 over the weekend.
Next for the sailing team is the St. Francis Invite, March 30-31 in San Francisco.
