Flood advisory expires for Big Island
A flood advisory has expired this evening for the Big Island.
The National Weather Service said radar indicated heavy rain near Kamuela with a rainfall rate of up to an inch an hour this afternoon. Spotty heavy rains also occurred along the Hamakua coast near Ookala and Pepeekeo.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa until 6 p.m. Sunday. A cold trough and deep moisture over the island will bring snow to the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches, with localized amounts up to 4 inches, are expected.
The public is asked to postpone travel to the summits until conditions improve.
