Help your little ones celebrate nature with Hawai‘i Nature Center weekend programs through June.
“When keiki form a connection with the outdoors from a young age, it opens up their life experience to the wonders of nature,” said Savannah Allshouse, Hawai‘i Nature Center associate director. “They see, hear and feel the world in a whole new way.”
Limited reservations are available as the programs are small group experiences. The programs:
>> Feb. 24: Mother Nature’s Music: Craft instruments with recycled materials and natural items.
>> March 10: Going Coconuts: Festivities include coconut water tasting and coconut craft making.
>> March 24: Happy Habitats: Search for different habitats of animals and plants along the stream, forest and meadow of Makiki Valley.
>> April 7: Terrific Terrariums: Build a terrarium with a collection of plants and creatures.
>> May 12: Art in Nature & Nature in Art: Paint with watercolors, perform leaf rubbings and make a scrapbook that celebrates nature as art.
>> May 26: Something Fishy: Make a fishing pole and explore the freshwater streams of Makiki Valley.
>> June 9: Inspired by Nature: Biomimicry: Compare everything from sticky seeds and Velcro to whale fins and wind turbines to link the natural world and human invention.
