Sean Coffey had two hits and Christian Kapeliela drove in two runs as the Hawaii Pacific baseball team beat UH Hilo 9-2 at Wong Stadium in Hilo on Sunday.
The Sharks (8-2) scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back as they won three of the five games at UH Hilo (2-3) over the weekend. Shane Adams pitched seven innings, scattering seven hits and giving up just one earned run while striking out four.
HPU welcomes UH Hilo to Oahu for four games at Hans L’Orange Park, with two doubleheaders scheduled for Saturday (2 p.m.) and Sunday (11 a.m.).
HPU routs Academy of Art on hardwood
McKenzie Alton scored 18 points and was one of five Sharks to score in double figures as the Hawaii Pacific women’s basketball team defeated Academy of Art 76-45 on Sunday at Moanalua High School.
Alysha Marcucci added 14 points, while Breanna Mackenzie scored 12 for the Sharks (17-6, 15-2 Pacific West). Samantha Lambrigtsen scored 10 points while, Amy Baum was one rebound shy of a triple double (10 points, 10 assists, nine rebounds).
Lily Perkins led the Urban Knights (3-17, 2-15) with 21 points.
HPU begins a four-game road trip Saturday at Azusa Pacific.
>> Jonathan Janssen scored 23 points, Ronald Blain added 11 and David Rowlands scored 10 as the Hawaii Pacific men’s basketball team held off Academy of Art 69-64 on Sunday at Moanalua High School.
HPU (7-15, 4-13) went 9-for-18 from 3-point territory and Janssen was a perfect 4-for-4. Stefan Milivojevic and Victor Ruiz de Carranza each scored 15 points for the Urban Knights (8-14, 8-9).
The Sharks head to the mainland for four conference games, beginning Saturday at Azusa Pacific.
