Keith Kaneshiro is asking the public to pay to provide him with a private attorney (“Council committee OKs $75,000 in attorney fees for Kaneshiro,” Star-Advertiser, Feb. 6).
He is entitled to the same service anyone else is afforded: If they cannot afford to hire an attorney, a public defender will be provided.
He obviously can afford a private attorney if he chooses to spend the money. Kaneshiro should go with the public defender if he believes in the system. Otherwise he should spend the money out of his own pocket.
This goes for Louis and Katherine Kealohas and every one else involved in this mess, too. Taxpayers are watching.
